Mohamed Ismail Khalfouni is an independent filmmaker based in Edinburgh, Scotland. Having grown up in an environment influenced by Sufi practices and coming from a dance background, his work is deeply rooted in spiritual symbolism, rhythm, and the physicality of expression. His films explore human nature, identity, and the inner... conflicts that shape us—often through bold visuals and experimental storytelling. Ismail studied Photography at the École des Beaux-Arts de Sousse before relocating to the UK, where he became an active member of the Edinburgh Cine and Video Society (ECVS). There, he continues to collaborate with emerging talent, pushing creative boundaries in grassroots filmmaking. His latest short film, The Gatekeeper, is a psychological thriller that confronts the illusions, desires, and distractions that threaten our freedom and sense of self. Ismail often works with micro-budgets while maintaining high artistic standards, believing that powerful stories can emerge from limited resources. His previous work has screened internationally, and he remains dedicated to telling meaningful stories that resonate across cultures and generations.
